CSX yesterday announced the recipients of its 22nd annual Chemical Safety Excellence Award, which recognizes customers that ship more than 600 carloads of hazardous materials during the year without a release due to controllable factors.

Seventy-eight customers received the award, CSX officials said in a press release. Many recipients were repeat winners, representing energy, technology, agricultural and other industries.

This year, the railroad recognized a continued commitment to excellence by companies that have earned the award five times. Those companies were Arizona Chemical Co., Ascend Performance Materials, Aux Sable Liquid Products, Cargill, CHS, Dow Corning, MarkWest Hydrocarbon Inc., Plains Marketing LP, SABIC Americas Inc., the and World Fuel Services. The U.S. government also was recognized for that continued commitment to excellence.

CSX also recognized two companies for receiving the award 10 times: Akko Nobel Chemicals Inc. and Kemira.

"CSX's commitment to safety — for our customers, our employees and the communities we serve — is the foundation of the decisions we make every day," said Skip Elliott, vice president of public safety, health and environment.
