Calgary Transit, CPR stress crossing safety to passengers

This week, Calgary Transit and Canadian Pacific Railway are teaming up to host a grade crossing safety blitz to mark Canada’s Railway Safety Week.

CPR police and Calgary Transit Protective Services Officers are spreading the safety message at Calgary’s Somerset-Bridlewood CTrain Station.

Officials are stressing the importance of using designated crossings, and obeying all signs and signals.

In 2004, 99 people died and 94 were injured in Canada after being struck by a train. During the past two years, Canadian railroads and transit agencies have reported 75 crossing incidents involving pedestrians or vehicles in the area targeted by the safety blitz.
