The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority and Amtrak are launching "Be Track Smart," a new year-long safety campaign.The campaign will offer facts and safety tips to reduce injuries and fatalities near railroad crossings and tracks, officials said in a joint press release."Our goal is to educate Californians to the potential dangers and get them to change how they think and behave around train tracks," Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty said.Through Caltrans' support of Operation Lifesaver, free education programs will be available for community organizations, schools and businesses.September is Rail Safety Month in California.
