Caltrain has concluded safety upgrades at three grade crossings in Redwood City, California, the agency announced this week.

The project involved improvements to the Whipple Avenue, Main Street and Broadway crossings. Construction began in February.

At the Whipple Avenue intersection, Caltrain installed a new signal cantilever and pedestrian gates, new sidewalks and ramps, and new pavement markings and striping. At the Broadway crossing, crews in stalled new pedestrian gates along with new pavement markings.

Workers added new fencing, pedestrian gates and pavement markings at the Main Street crossing.

"Caltrain's grade crossing improvements will go a long way toward ensuring that people are safe when they cross the tracks, whether they are traveling by foot, bike or car," said Redwood City Mayor Ian Bain in a press release.
