East Coast transit agencies warn riders about using Samsung Galaxy Note7

Transit agencies in New York City and New Jersey are urging riders with Samsung Galaxy Note7 phones to shut off the devices while riding trains or buses.

The warnings came after Samsung received several reports about the phones' batteries overheating and exploding. The company has since recalled the devices.

New Jersey Transit asked customers not to use or charge the Galaxy Note7 on board trains, buses, light-rail vehicles or in stations and facilities.

"Because of the uncertainties surrounding this device, we are issuing this precautionary advisory to ensure the safety of all of our customers," said NJ Transit interim Executive Director Dennis Martin in a press release.

And on Twitter, MTA New York City Transit also asked riders to power off their Galaxy Note7s before entering a station or boarding a bus, due to concerns about devices' batteries igniting. Neither agency has had any reported cases of the phones igniting on their properties, however.
