Illinois panel OKs funds for grade-crossing improvements, bridge replacement

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) recently approved funding for the installation of automatic warning devices at two crossings in Galena over Chicago & Center & Pacific Railroad Co.'s (CC&P) track.
ICC staff recommended that the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) pay for 95% of the project's cost, estimated at a little over $1 million, with CC&P covering the remaining costs. All work is scheduled to be completed within a year and a half. The full agreement can be read here.
Meanwhile, the ICC also approved an agreement to fund a preliminary engineering project for a grade separation project at Mile Load Road in Fulton County.
This will lay the groundwork to replace an outdated motor vehicle bridge over railroad tracks. The estimated cost of the preliminary engineering project is $374,624. All funding will come from the GCPF, ICC officials said in a press release. Fulton County and Pleasant Township, where the project is located, will pay for any additional costs.
The project is anticipated to be completed within a year. The full agreement can be read here.
