KCS to take next 'Responsible Care' step

Since 1999, Kansas City Southern has been a Responsible Care® partner, working with the chemistry industry to share safety, health and environmental information and best practices to improve safety and transportation procedures.

Now, the Class I plans to adopt a Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and implement it on the Kansas City Southern and The Texas Mexican railways.

RCMS sets requirements for policy and leadership; planning; implementation, operation and accountability; performance measurement and corrective action; and management review.

The system provides a “structured framework for assessing needs, setting specific performance goals and sharing information with employees, contractors and the public,” KCS officials said in a prepared statement.
