NS to promote haz-mat transportation safety in Northeast

advertisement

Next week, a special Norfolk Southern Railway Co. train will visit five northeastern cities to promote Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER®), a program designed to increase community understanding of hazardous materials transportation and the importance of emergency planning.

The train will stop in Buffalo and Binghamton, N.Y.; Linden, N.J.; Allentown, Pa.; and Hagerstown, Md., and enable state and local emergency planning committees, emergency responders and government officials to participate in hands-on drills and training sessions. Railroad training tank cars, specialized emergency response vehicles and over-the-road tank trucks will be on display.

The TRANSCAER train is the sixth that NS has sponsored since 1994.

TRANSCAER members include volunteer representatives from the chemical manufacturing, transportation and distribution industries, and government. Sponsors include the Association of American Railroads, American Chemistry Council, The Chlorine Institute, Chemical Educational Foundation and National Tank Truck Carriers Inc.
