As part of a pilot project to install wayside horns in Del Mar, Calif., the North County Transit District (NCTD) today will begin pedestrian crossing improvements.
The work is part of a project to install wayside horn technology designed to warn vehicles and pedestrians of approaching trains at the Coast Boulevard crossing, and alleviate the requirement of trains to sound their horn as they approach the crossing, NCTD officials said in a prepared statement.
The crossing improvements are expected to be completed by month’s end. NCTD’s system includes Coaster commuter trains and Sprinter light-rail trains.
