Operation Lifesaver Inc. announced this week the award of $214,075 in rail safety awareness grants to Operation Lifesaver organizations in 12 states.
The Federal Highway Administration provided $200,000 of the total funds, OLI officials said in a press release.
OLI organizations in California, Indiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Washington state will use the funds for public education campaigns focused on the need for safety around grade crossings. The campaigns will run during Rail Safety Week, Sept. 18-24.
The Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh will supplement the Missouri grant project, OLI officials said.
