Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) last week released a safety video targeting professional drivers of heavy trucks to prevent collisions with trains at grade crossings.

The weight of cement, dump and garbage trucks increases the potential for death, injury and property damage to occur when such vehicles collide with trains, OLI officials said in a press release.

According to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), 506 crossing incidents involving heavy trucks and trains occurred in 2018, compared with 449 incidents in 2017 and 443 incidents in 2016.

The OLI video details how drivers should increase attention when approaching and crossing railroad tracks and recognize and obey signs and signals. The video also demonstrates what to do if a truck stalls or gets stuck on the tracks.

The FRA provided funding for the video's production and distribution.
