Ohio approves crossing upgrades on B&LE, IORY rail lines

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio recently approved safety upgrades at grade crossings in Ashtabula and Warren counties.

CN's Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Co. (B&LE) was granted an extension to May 1, 2024, to install flashing lights and gates at the Middle Road crossing in Ashtabula County. Federal funds will provide $428,825 to complete the upgrades.
 
Indiana & Ohio Railway (IORY) will install flashing lights, gates and a new crossing surface at the Pleasant Renner Road/T.R. 172 crossing in Warren County, by Nov. 30, 2024. The total cost of the project is $370,244, with $323,446 covered by federal funds and $46,798 provided by the railroad.
