Operation Lifesaver Canada last week named Daniel Beaudry the recipient of the 2014 Roger Cyr Award for his efforts to help reduce grade crossing and trespassing incidents in the greater Montreal area.Beaudry has promoted public safety awareness through his work as an active Operation Lifesaver Canada member since 2007 and as chairman of the Québec OL Provincial Committee since 2011, Operation Lifesaver Canada officials said in a press release. As a prevention coordinator with Agence métropolitaine de transport’s (AMT) operations team for risk assessment/development, Beaudry has "gone beyond his everyday responsibilities to spread the word," they said.At AMT, he created prevention projects linked to Operation Lifesaver's goals. For youth audiences, he toured schools in close proximity to an AMT commuter train and developed a car safety awareness campaign that includes educational video, training session and in-class discussion geared toward high school students. Beaudry also has led the safety training of more than 60 new AMT public transport inspectors.“Daniel’s commitment to the program and its mission is what makes him a natural choice for recipient of the Roger Cyr award,” said Mike Regimbal, Operation Lifesaver Canada's national director. "Daniel is dedicated to prevention and treats each Operation Lifesaver event as an opportunity to promote [our] message and educate people about the dangers surrounding railways."Created in 1981, the award is named after Roger Cyr, who formed Operation Lifesaver Canada. The award is a joint initiative of Operation Lifesaver Canada, the Railway Association of Canada and Transport Canada.
