Operation Lifesaver seeks applicants for transit-rail safety grants

Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) has opened the application period for its competitive transit-rail safety education grants.

The grants offer a total of $220,000 in funding for transit agencies and government entities to conduct transit-rail safety education and public awareness initiatives.

The grant amounts are capped at $20,000 and require nonfederal matching funds of at least 25% of project costs. Projects must be focused on safety education or public awareness initiatives in communities with operating or planned transit-rail systems, such as commuter- and light-rail, subway and streetcar systems, OLI officials said in a news release.

OLI must approve all materials created as part of the grant and all grants must be coordinated with state Operation Lifesaver programs.

Applications must be submitted via a common grant application online processing program by July 31. Grant awards will be announced by Sept. 3.
