Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) is changing the name of Rail Safety Week, which is held each September.
This year, the event — to be held Sept. 23-29 — will be called See Tracks? Think Train! Week. The new name better represents what the week-long observance is all about: public education and attention on rail safety, OLI officials said in a news release.
The event is a concentrated week of rail safety education focusing attention on the importance of making safe choices when driving or walking near railroad tracks and trains, they said.
First held in the United States in 2017, Rail Safety Week is a collaborative effort between OLI, state Operation Lifesaver programs and rail safety partners across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The main focus of See Tracks? Think Train! Week will be preventing grade crossing and trespass incidents across North America and concentrating public attention on the need for rail safety education.
