Transport Canada announced last week it is investing CA$24 million across 147 projects to improve railway infrastructure.

Under the Rail Safety Improvement Program, the funds will help complete 120 grade crossing improvements, five crossing infrastructure projects, 10 crossing closures and 12 technology and research projects. Fifty-eight of those projects are in Ontario and include crossing safety, infrastructure and research projects for CA$13 million of the total investment.

The funds in general will support infrastructure, reduce safety risks and contribute to economic growth, Transport Canada officials said in a press release.

The Canadian government has invested more than CA$107 million since the program was launched in 2018, said Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra.
