Union Pacific Railroad is honoring 69 companies with its 2020 Pinnacle Award for their efforts to safely transport chemicals by rail.

The annual award recognizes shippers that implement release prevention protocols, corrective action plans and have zero non-accidental releases of regulated hazardous materials shipments.

The railroad values its collaboration with the award recipients and their help in transporting chemical shipments in the safest manner possible, said Jacque Bendon, UP's vice president of industrial, in a press release.

"Their work helps ensure these vital products safely arrive at their destinations," he said.

The Class I's hazardous materials safety team supports its customers with joint rail safety training programs and rail-car inspections, UP officials said.
