Watco program rewards rule-conscious workers
advertisement
The Watco Cos. is trying to put the freeze on workers’ unsafe behaviors. The short-line holding company recently implemented Following the Rules Everyday Ensures Zero Errors (FREEZE), a program designed to encourage workers to follow safety rules and help prevent accidents. The program runs through March 31.
Developed by Watco Vice President of Safety Gary Vaughn, FREEZE rewards employees who perform tasks safely. During efficiency tests, supervisors will award safety conscious workers a card saying: “I got caught working by the book! I did it right!” An employee who earns five cards can redeem them for a Watco “Freeze Out Injuries” travel mug; 10 cards can be redeemed for a $25 gift certificate.
Watco owns and operates 16 short lines and employs more than 1,200 people.
