The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has appointed Edward Cetnar superintendent of the Port Authority Police Department.

Cetnar succeeds Michael Fedorko, who announced his retirement last week after serving as superintendent since 2009.

Cetnar will oversee the security of PANYNJ's rail and seaport facilities, as well as its bridges, tunnels, bus terminals and World Trade Center complex.

Since 2014, he has served as PANYNJ's deputy superintendent of police. Before that, he had 27-year career as a New Jersey State Police commander, agency officials said in a press release.

Cetnar also served a stint as incident commander for the 2014 Super Bowl, which was held at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

"I am confident that Ed's promotion to superintendent will help us to better manage our resources, implement best practices and strategically plan for the future," said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O'Toole.
