Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) announced this week it will continue to enforce Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines regarding the wearing of face masks on public transportation. The transit-rail agency's announcement follows Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's plan to end the state’s mask mandate.

DART requires that passengers and transit operators wear face masks over the mouth and nose at all times while on DART trains, buses and paratransit vehicles, on Trinity Railway Express trains, at DART stations, on platforms, in buildings and on the Dallas Streetcar.

Refusing to wear a mask, unless exempted or excluded under the CDC guidelines, is a violation of federal law and failure to comply will result in denial of boarding or removal. Also, passengers may be subject to federal penalties, DART officials said in a press release.
