Union Pacific Railroad employees and the general public are invited to provide input on the UP Police Department (UPDD) as part of the railroad's efforts to maintain law enforcement accreditation.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA) has scheduled a public assessment of the department to ensure it meets the organization's standards in four areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
The process consists of five phases: enrollment, self-assessment, on-site assessment, commission review and decision and maintaining compliance.
As part of the on-site assessment, the public and UP employees can provide feedback on the UPPD via phone at 877-859-9008 on April 12. Comments will be processed by the CALEA assessment team.
A virtual public hearing will be held April 13 and written comments will be accepted at calea.org.
UPPD achieved accreditation in 2013 and 2017, becoming the only Class I police department to receive and maintain CALEA accreditation, according to a UP press release.
