The Transportation Security Administration is seeking public comment on approaches to strengthen cybersecurity in the pipeline, freight- and passenger-rail sectors, according to a recent advance notice of proposed rulemaking published in the Federal Register.
TSA is searching for owner-operators of higher-risk pipeline and rail operations to help the agency develop a better approach to cybersecurity requirements, according to the notice. It's also interested in hearing from industry associations representing owner-operators, third-party cybersecurity subject matter experts and insurers and underwriters for cybersecurity risks.
Comments are due Jan. 17, 2023.
The nation's critical infrastructure is at risk of being attacked through exploitation of operational technology and IT systems, TSA officials said in the notice.
