Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) this summer will begin installing cameras on 163 of its light-rail trains. The agency is paying $4.8 million for the cameras, which eventually will be equipped with facial recognition software, local media reported. DART plans to have the software installed by 2018.The facial recognition software can be used to find people on board who are wanted by law enforcement. Additionally, the technology could alert DART when fare evaders who have been banned try to ride, according to the Dallas Morning News.Currently, all of DART's buses have cameras, as well as all train stations and certain bus centers, the newspaper reported.
