More than 5,000 people have downloaded the Regional Transportation District of Denver's (RTD) Transit Watch app, the agency announced yesterday.

The free app allows patrons to send reports about suspicious or criminal activity directly to RTD's transit police command center. Users can report an incident by sending a description, photos or GPS location, agency officials said in a press release.

Once the security operations center receives the incident report, staff members can respond and broadcast travel alerts and safety information from the app.

"The Transit Watch app allows riders to interact with our transit police in real time and report activities that might be making them uncomfortable or concerned in a discreet way," said RTD Transit Police Chief John Tarbert.
