L.A. Metro adds photo-enforcement camera to Crenshaw/LAX project

As part of the Crenshaw/LAX Transit project, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) has installed cameras at grade crossings along Crenshaw Boulevard between 59th and 48th streets through Park Mesa Heights, California, and will activate a photo enforcement program on Oct. 1. 

The program is aimed at mitigating potential train and vehicle collisions, and improving vehicular and pedestrian safety along the boulevard during train testing and when the line launches operations, L.A. Metro officials said in a news release.

Motorists who violate the left-hand turn traffic signal during the first 30 days of enforcement will receive a warning letter from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

After the warning period ends Nov. 1, motorists who disobey traffic signals and operate vehicles in an illegal manner will receive traffic citations in the mail. Citations will average $100, plus penalties and assessments, L.A. Metro officials said.

When completed, the Crenshaw/LAX Transit project will extend from the E Line (Expo) at Expo/Crenshaw Station and merge with the C Line (Green) at Aviation/LAX Station, connecting the Crenshaw Corridor, Inglewood and El Segundo, California.
