Metrolinx victim of North Korean cyberattack

The Ontario government on Tuesday confirmed that Metrolinx was the victim of a cyberattack by North Korea.
The attack was routed through servers in Russia, according to a statement from the province.
Metrolinx took "immediate action" to protect riders and services, said agency spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins in an email.
"At no time was staff or customer privacy (including any personal or financial data) ever breached, nor safety of our trains and buses compromised," she said, adding that the agency was unable to discuss further details of the attack for security reasons.
Metrolinx conducts daily testing and monitoring to ensure customers' information and safety isn't compromised, Aikins noted. The agency is continuing to monitor the attack, which occurred about a week ago, according to the Toronto Star.
The hack didn't impact the Presto fare card system.
