The Surface Transportation Board (STB) met recently with members of the cybersecurity team at the Association of American Railroads (AAR) to receive a briefing on AAR’s cybersecurity work and the rail industry’s cybersecurity planning and preparedness.
The presentation detailed the freight-rail industry’s efforts to prevent and deter attacks on the nation’s rail infrastructure in order to avoid disruptions to rail service and critical supply chains, STB officials said in a press release.
Through the meeting, the board was able to gain an informed understanding of the rail industry’s level of cybersecurity preparedness, its partnerships with federal and private-sector cybersecurity stakeholders and the universe of cybersecurity threats against railroads, board officials said.
