The Societe de transport de Montreal (STM) last week began displaying the occupancy levels of its Azur trains on the Orange Line to help riders better plan trips based on social distancing practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

STM partnered with Astral Media to display near real-time capacity estimates for each rail car on the Metrovision information display screens located on station platforms on the Orange Line. The Orange Line is the metro's busiest line, STM officials said in a press release.

STM is able to provide occupancy levels on the Orange Line because it is served entirely by Azur trains, which are the agency's only trains that have the necessary electrical components to estimate the number of passengers on board.
