Sound Transit last week began developing criteria to identify which of the agency's construction projects are critical and will continue during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The criteria is contingent on contractors maintaining compliance with public health guidance, including social distancing, Sound Transit officials said in an agency blog.

Sound Transit officials have asked major contractors to submit plans detailing how they will maintain safe environments for workers on job sites.

“We will continue to assess issues including project construction needs and materials availability in the weeks to come,” Sound Transit officials said.

One example of a potential critical project is pre-construction work for the project to install light-rail across Interstate 90 this summer. With a limited seasonal window for the work to occur, lack of preparation could impact the project’s timeline, they said.
