The Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) has received a $5 million national training program grant to train state, local and tribal first responders, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced earlier this week.

A subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads, TTCI will train responders at its Security and Emergency and Emergency Response Training Center (SERTC) in Pueblo, Colo. TTCI is one of seven members of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium.

"TTCI strongly supports DHS/FEMA's efforts in keeping our surface transportation safe and secure," said SERTC Director Mike Cook. "None of this would have been possible without the support of our local, state and federal representatives who have visited our site on many occasions and fully understand the value of providing this training to the emergency response community. We are honored that they have selected us to help train our nation's emergency responders."

A hazmat training center, SERTC manages and presents course focusing on surface transportation response. TTCI received funding for the current program in October 2015.
