Valley Metro riders now can download a free smartphone application to report incidents to the agency’s rail operations staff or obtain service information.Riders can use the new AlertVM app to discreetly report suspicious activity, vandalism, graffiti, disruptive behavior and maintenance issues, or receive notifications about service delays through their phones, Valley Metro officials said in a press release. The app can be downloaded on both iOS and Android smartphones.“We are committed to providing our riders with a safe and reliable light-rail experience. The AlertVM app will help us more quickly identify and respond to issues through the eyes and ears of our riders,” said Scott Smith, the agency’s chief executive officer. The app is part of the Respect the Ride program introduced last year that aims to discourage disruptive behavior on the agency’s 26-mile light-rail line. The program includes enhanced station signage on rules for riding, station fare zone striping, the Right and Rong marketing campaign and increased security officer teams.Next year, Valley Metro also plans to add station ambassadors as part of the Respect the Ride program.
