Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) leaders this week marked the opening of the Metro Transit Police Department's District 3 station in Landover, Maryland.

The cost to build the station was $8.2 million. Construction began in 2022. The station can accommodate up to 100 officers working 24/7, WMATA officials said in a press release. The facility was also designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards.

Police officers working out of the station will patrol an area that includes three rail yards, three bus stations, and the Blue, Orange and Silver Lines from New Carrollton and Downtown Largo to Federal Center SW and the Green Line from Branch Ave to Waterfront.

This is the third station location; the other stations are in Springfield, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
