Duke Energy Corp. has selected five North Carolina properties for participation in the company's 2019 Site Readiness Program to improve the sites' readiness for business and industrial development.Some of the properties offer access to freight-rail and/or port service, according to a Duke Energy press release. Those properties include:• a 120-acre undeveloped track on Blue Clay Road in New Hanover County. The property is about 4.5 miles from Interstate-40, adjacent to a CSX rail line and near the Port of Wilmington and Wilmington International Airport. Full infrastructure is expected to be online by July 2020.• the 1,600-acre Miller property in Rockingham County, where large scale power, natural gas, water, sewer and rail are in place.• the 142-acre Radio Island site in Cateret County, owned by the Port of Morehead City. It offers direct access to the Intracoastal Waterway and has unobstructed access to the Atlantic Ocean. Duke Energy's program has helped prepare properties that have obtained 18 major projects in North Carolina since the program started in 2005, resulting in $6.1 billion in capital investment.The company worked with major site selection firms to evaluate the five sites.
