A&R Logistics Inc. yesterday announced plans to build an export facility in the West Branch Commerce Park in Berkley County, South Carolina.The plant will have up to 1 million square feet and contain four high-speed packing lines for plastic resin, according to a press release issued by A&R, a supply chain solutions company serving the chemical industry. The facility has been designed as a CSX Select Site, which will "ensure efficient and reliability capacity and service," A&R officials said. Select Sites are development-ready properties along CSX's network where standard land use considerations and comprehensive due-diligence items have been addressed.The facility is being developed in cooperation with the South Carolina Ports Authority. The Port of Charleston will play a "major role" in the company's East Coast strategy, said A&R President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Holden."As a leading supply chain solutions company to the chemical industry, A&R's facility will be a game changer for the port and our customers, who seek multiple solutions and flexibility for their trade flows," Holden said. "Our customers are some of the largest chemical companies in the world and have very complex supply chain requirements."A&R's $60 million investment is expected to create over 60 new jobs, according to a press release issued by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster's office.The new facility is expected to be completed in fourth-quarter 2020, the governor's press release stated.
