The Alabama State Port Authority and AutoMOBILE International Terminal (AIT) earlier this week signed a concession agreement for a $60 million automobile roll on/roll off terminal now under construction at the Port of Mobile.

AIT will operate the facility when it's completed in early 2021.

The 57-acre terminal is located on the port's main multimodal complex. When completed, it will have an annual throughput of 150,000 units. It will be served by five Class Is and CG Railway, a rail ferry service.

"AIT’s investment will create a new U.S. gateway for shipping finished automobiles for both U.S. and global manufacturing and consumer markets,” said James Lyons, the port authority's director and chief executive officer, in a press release.

AIT is a joint venture between Terminal Zarate S.A., a Grupo Murchison company based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Neltume Ports, based in Santiago, Chile.
