Viterra Inc. yesterday announced it will open a new grain elevator in Biggar, Saskatchewan, that will be served by Canadian Pacific.
The new facility will have a storage capacity for 34,000 metric tons and will be equipped with a loop track for rail loading.
Construction will begin immediately and is slated for completion in early 2022, Viterra officials said in a press release.
Over the past several years, Viterra has been making targeted investments across its network to better serve customers, said Kyle Jeworski, president and chief executive officer for Viterra North America.
"We're pleased to be revitalizing our presence in the Biggar area, and making a long-term commitment to our customers through this significant investment," Jeworski said.
The grain elevator project is the latest example of the companies' commitment to Canadian farmers, said CP Vice President of Sales and Marketing-Grain and Fertilizers Joan Hardy.
"As industry partners, Viterra and CP are focused on strengthening Canada's agriculture supply chain through targeted infrastructure investments," Hardy said.
