The U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is investing $2 million in Atmore, Alabama, for infrastructure improvements needed to support current and future business needs.
The city of Atmore will receive a $2 million EDA grant to complete construction of a rail spur that will serve a new peanut processing plant. The project, to be matched with $300,000 in state funds and $200,000 in local funds, is expected to create 150 jobs.
Coastal Growers LLC, which is owned by a cooperative of farmers, broke ground on the new plant earlier this year. The $87 million shelling and storage facility will be located in the Atmore Industrial Park.
