Chemical shipper INVISTA recently received a Grand Slam Award from the Association of American Railroads (AAR) for receiving 2010 hazardous material-handling safety awards from four Class Is. A polymer and fiber producer, INVISTA was one of three companies honored by the association.

Presented on behalf of the AAR’s Hazardous Materials Committee and Non-Accident Release Reduction Task Force, the Grand Slam Award recognizes companies that achieved the “highest level of safety for the rail transportation of hazardous materials,” according to a prepared statement. INVISTA registered no non-accidental haz-mat releases during rail transit last year.

The Grand Slam Award honors the shipper for receiving transportation safety awards from CSX Transportation, CN, Norfolk Southern Corp. and Union Pacific Railroad. CSXT recognized INVISTA for shipping 600 or more rail cars safely without any releases attributed to loading or unloading processes; CN honored the company for handling haz-mat shipments “carefully and judiciously,” and for minding high safety standards; NS recognized the shipper for transporting more than 1,000 haz-mat carloads without and incident last year; and UP honored INVISTA for implementing successful prevention and corrective plans, and achieving zero non-accidental releases.
