Yesterday, BNSF Railway Co. announced it will honor 98 chemical shippers with its 15th annual Product Stewardship Award to recognize their efforts to safely transport hazardous materials by rail in 2011.
To be selected for the award, a shipper must transport a minimum of 500 loaded tank cars of hazardous materials during the previous year and record no non-accidental releases during an entire transportation cycle. In addition, they must successfully implement product stewardship ethics under the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® initiative, BNSF officials said in a prepared statement.
“Our top priority is safety for our customers’ shipments, the communities we serve, our employees and the environment,” said John Lanigan, BNSF’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “We are proud to do business with so many customers that have shown the same commitment to the safe transportation of hazardous materials.”
