CN to serve future Azure SAF facility in Manitoba

Azure Sustainable Fuels Corp. announced last week that it will develop a renewable-fuel production facility in Manitoba, Canada, that will be served by CN.

Azure, a developer in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), expects the new facility will produce about 20,0000 barrels per day of predominantly SAF, with first production targeted for 2027.

"We have established the critical partnerships with leaders in their respective industries that are required to successfully construct and operate a facility of this nature. At the same time, we have worked closely with federal, provincial and Indigenous governments to adhere to all regulations and requirements," said Azure CEO Douglas Cole in a press release.

With the recent announcements made by Natural Resources Canada's Clean Fuels Fund, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) and the Government of Manitoba's Sustainable Agriculture Fund, Azure is now fully funded through the completion of the front-end engineering and design (FEED) stage.

Azure has secured CA$40 million in funding to date, including from the Clean Fuels Fund, CIB and Manitoba government. Completion of FEED is anticipated by the end of 2024.
