Cargill to expand rail capacity at Alberta grain facility

Cargill Canada Ltd. announced it has begun to expand storage and rail capacity at its Viking, Alberta, grain-handling facility.
To be completed by February 2015, the project calls for increasing crop storage capacity by 10,000 metric tons and doubling the facility's rail-car-handling capacity from 52 to 100 cars.
"We recognize the need for more storage and additional car spots,” said Cargill Ltd. President Jeff Vassart in a press release. “We have an opportunity to manage how our grain will move and improve rail shipment efficiency.”
The facility ships most of its grain by rail to export terminals at ports in Vancouver and Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
