E3 Lithium Ltd. has secured a brownfield site in Mountain View County, Alberta, for its Clearwater Project’s central processing facility. A former gravel pit, the site is located near CN and Canadian Pacific Kansas City lines.

The Clearwater Project is a lithium extraction system being developed by E3 Lithium in Alberta that will use a closed loop water system to reduce water consumption during the extraction process. According to the E3 Lithium website, the mineral reserve located between Red Deer and Calgary in Alberta hosts 1.29 million tons of lithium hydroxide monohydrate.

The central facility will be where brine is collected, lithium is extracted and battery-grade lithium salts will be produced, E3 Lithium officials said in a press release. The site was selected in part due to the extensive infrastructure already in place from decades of oil and gas operations, including pipelines, roads, rail access and electrical distribution.

Secured under option from Mountain View County, E3 Lithium will rehabilitate and return the site to pastureland once its commercial operations are completed.
