Highbar LLC yesterday announced it selected a site in northeast Arkansas to build the first of two planned rebar steel mini mills.
The mill will be built on over 600 acres of land located just outside of Osceola and will have a direct connection to a rail line operated by an undisclosed Class I. The site will also include space for an expanded Mississippi River port facility and adjacent solar installation, Highbar officials said in a press release.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for second-quarter 2023 after final permits are in place and equipment deliveries begin, they added.
A new company focused on sustainable scrap metal recycling and steel production, Highbar plans to spend about $500 million on the project during a 22-month construction period.
