The Minnesota Department of Transportation is soliciting grant applications for $9.6 million available for projects designed to improve freight-rail service and support economic development.
The funding is available through the Minnesota Rail Service Improvement Program. Established in 1976, the program aims to strengthen the state’s shipping economy by providing financial assistance to improve rail service.
Eligible applicants include railroads, rail shippers, political subdivisions of the state, and federal agencies that seek to complete a major improvement or rehabilitation of railroad rights of way or other railroad facilities.
Grant applications are due Dec. 15. More information on the grant program is available here.
