Minnesota research council joins Soy Transportation Coalition

The Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council recently joined the Soy Transportation Coalition (STC), the 11th state soybean board to become a coalition member.
“The Minnesota soybean industry is heavily dependent upon our transportation network to be profitable,” said Joel Schreurs, a soybean farmer from Tyler, Minn., and member of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association, in a prepared statement. “A large volume of Minnesota soybeans are transported via barge, rail and truck. Farmers, therefore, need to be actively engaged in promoting a transportation system that works for agriculture.”
Minnesota is the third-largest soybean-producing state and the council’s involvement will “significantly enhance” the coalition’s efforts to the ensure the U.S. transportation system meets farmers’ needs, said STC Chairman Ed Ulch, a soybean producer from Solon, Iowa.
Established in 2007, the STC now aims to help the soybean industry benefit from a “cost-effective, reliable and competitive” transportation system.
