The Ohio Rail Development Commission recently approved $1 million in assistance to JSW Steel USA to aid with two on-site rail projects at the company's Mingo Junction facility.
The rail projects will support a recently announced $145 million expansion at the facility designed to enable JSW to better serve the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. Estimated to cost $5.1 million, the projects will increase the company's finished product and scrap processing capacity, ORDC officials said in a press release.
One of the projects involves the expansion of a Norfolk Southern Railway/Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway shared yard to 351 rail-car spots from the current 184. An interplant loop track will also be installed to improve JSW’s internal logistics.
The second rail project calls for expanding JSW’s rail infrastructure for a scrap-and-iron storage and handling yard on the south side of the Mingo Junction property. The work involves constructing 3,360 linear feet of track and installing four rail switches to maintain the scrap processing volumes required to support 125,000 tons of slab production monthly.
