Badger Mining Corp. (BMC), a Berlin, Wis., industrial sand supplier, has acquired Di-Corp’s transload facility in Sexsmith, Alta., Canada.

BMC and Di-Corp also are working together to expand the site, including making land purchases and "railroad additions," to increase the facility's capacity and accommodate unit train shipments, according to a BMC press release. Construction is scheduled to be completed by year's end or early 2017.

"This is all part of Badger Mining's commitment to the Deep Basin," says Lori Phillippi, BMC advisory team associate in a press release. "With this purchase, we are reinforcing our commitment by further deepening our roots, preparing for a rebound in activity, and implementing our plan of establishing the best, fastest and most reliable distribution network in Western Canada."

The acquisition reunites BMC with CN, which will transport industrial sand from Wisconsin to BMC’s operations in Alberta.

"The investments we have made in our network, particularly in Wisconsin and Alberta, provide efficient transportation services to partners like Badger Mining and Di-Corp, allowing them to grow their businesses and make these commitments to certain markets," said CN Vice President of Industrial Products Fiona Murray.

The transloading site is one of BMC's 26 distribution locations throughout the United States and Canada. Di-Corp will continue as the facility's transload operator.
