Yesterday, Watco Cos. L.L.C. announced it acquired the operations of Cudahy Car Shop Inc. (CCS) in Cudahy, Wis., which provides rail-car repair and maintenance services.

CCS, which began operations in 1977 under the ownership of the Chicago and North Western Railroad, features 12 indoor car spots, 20 work positions and 40 total spots. Located in the Milwaukee switching district on Union Pacific Railroad, the shop employs 22 and services more than 140 cars per month.

The shop is a great fit with the current mechanical portfolio and the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad L.L.C. (WSOR), one of the company's newest short-line acquisitions, said Gary Lundy, Watco’s executive vice president of support services, in a prepared statement.

“The shop gives us opportunities to expand our customer reach in mechanical services," he said.

Watco also named David Ireland environmental health and safety manager for CSS, as well as WSOR shops in Horicon, Janesville, Madison and Milwaukee, Wis. Most recently, Ireland was WSOR’s administrator of mechanical training-locomotive. For the past 12 years, he has served WSOR in various roles, including locomotive mechanic, fabricator and certified crane operator.
