U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx on Jan. 22 toured Pacific Harbor Line Inc.'s (PHL) new Berth 200 rail yard that's under construction in Los Angeles.

To be completed in late 2014, the yard will serve the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The Los Angeles Harbor Department is relocating the Pier A railroad switching and classification yard to Berth 200 to accommodate the development of a Trans Pacific Container Service Corp. on-dock rail facility.

The U.S. Department of Transportation provided a $16 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant for the yard to help modernize and expand the port, said PHL President Otis Cliatt II in a press release.
