West Texas airpark to undergo rail expansion

Big Spring Rail Systems Inc. earlier this week announced a multimillion-dollar rail infrastructure expansion within the Big Spring McMahon Wrinkle Airpark in Big Spring, Texas.

The expansion is necessary to enhance the movement of rail traffic and increase service between Big Spring Rail Systems and Union Pacific Railroad, according to a press release.

The park is located in the Ports-to Plains Trade Corridor, which is also undergoing a major expansion. The enhancement of road, rail and air traffic services will prepare the park to be a major logistical hub for West Texas and a provider for warehousing, oil field supplies, sand, pipe and other commodities that support the Permian Basin, the release stated.

Big Spring Rail Systems operates a two-mile line in Howard County, Texas, over trackage owned by the city of Big Spring, and interchanges with UP.
